Kelly Gallagher

Born and educated in Northern Ireland, Kelly attended the University of Ulster where she successfully completed a BA Honours Degree in Fine and Applied Art.

Kelly works on canvas and paper using a variety of mediums such as Oil, Acrylic and Charcoal. Both the Figure and Landscape are important subjects within her work. The surface of her paintings are of particular importance and she uses a number of materials to give the surface a tactile quality.

For Kelly, the process is as important as the finished painting, this involves building up and stripping back layers until a form emerges from the canvas. Experimentation with different ideas and materials gives her work a spontaneous and expressive quality.

Kell'ys work has been shown previously by the prestigious royal Ulster Academy. Kelly was also winner of Diageo's Best Emerging Artist in Northern Ireland in 2004 and has won major commissions including Debenhams and Barnabas Ventures.
